Knowing You, Knowing Me

Knowing You, Knowing Me (2017, 2018), was a creative community project, used dance to build connections and strengthen a sense of community in our fast-growing municipality.

The program offered free dance workshops, community gatherings featuring performances by local choirs and musicians, professional performances and a mentoring program that resulted in local dancers leading dance workshops in the community long after the funded project concluded.

Dance is known to improve physical fitness and mobility and reduce memory loss. Participants also reported increased confidence and sense of well being, saying workshops were fun, easy to access and simple to follow, creating a space where residents could share stories, make friends and generate a sense of belonging.

Knowing You, Knowing Me included the wild and wonderful Inaugural Annual Dance Affair by Everybody NOW and two provocative performances by Melbourne Playback Theatre. It was funded by Creative Victoria and presented by the City of Whittlesea in partnership with Ausdance Victoria.

The project was launched with Come Dance with Me - a series of community dance workshops and events.
