Collectively Caring for Climate exhibition

Project background

This project invited residents to take affirmative climate action. 330 local residents participated including people of all ages and from diverse cultural backgrounds, including individuals, schools, artists, community groups and organisations. Each participant made a personal climate pledge about a small change they would make in their daily lives to help protect the environment. They then created an artwork that featured their climate pledge.

The artworks were photographed and collective designs were created by graphic designer Heather Hoare from Pixel City. The "Collectively Caring For Climate" artworks were then printed onto a range of materials for different uses including aluminium panels (for the 17 murals completed so far), 800 road foil stickers and a series of fabric banners.

The first and largest of the community climate pledge murals was installed in Hylands Rd Thomastown near the cnr of High Street, as part of the Thomastown Streetscape Improvement project.

OtherĀ  murals in the series have been installed at sites in Thomastown, Epping, Epping North, Mill Park and South Morang. Further murals will be installed in 2022 in Thomastown, Mill Park and Mernda.

An exhibition of all the original artworks on canvas is currently on display in the Great Hall at the Council Offices. It is open from 10am - 4pm weekdays.
