‘When you have limited time left to leave your home, you grab the most valuable things you have in one sack, a bukjeh, and go...’
Bukjeh is a multi-artform performance that invites audiences to experience the stories of refugees through poetry, dance, music, song and art.
Informed by stories and experiences from the community of the City of Whittlesea and beyond, and presented in a beautiful embroidered tent, this performance will take you on an evocative journey reflecting on home, displacement, and the journey between.
Connecting over the past 12 months, with schools, community groups and individuals from our community, local artist Aseel Tayah and her team of professional artists have listened and reworked their show to incorporate the stories of locals… After a year of postponements and pivoting, we are very excited to be presenting performances of BUKJEH in Whittlesea.
Presented by the City of Whittlesea, BUKJEH in Whittlesea is supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria.
